In our family we each have responsibilities. Parents have a responsibility to their children, and children have responsibilities to their parents. Our classroom operates in almost the same manner.
My major role as a teacher is to help you, as a student to become successful. I am not here to cram your head full of knowledge, but to help you make these discoveries on your own. If we work together, I can guarantee you a successful 5th grade year.
I am also here to make sure you are safe. This includes both academically and physically. Wrong answers are part of learning. With out them, many major discoveries in the world may never have happened. I will never insult you, or allow another to insult you for making a wrong answer or prediction. Being wrong is an important part of life.
So what are your responsibilities as a student? Well, pretty simple. You are to work and be engaged. if you do not want to do the work, then you cannot expect to make any gains. I cannot wish myself to be healthier, I have to work for it. Your education is the same way. Another important part of a students responsibility is to be kind. It is one of the Ridgeback Rules, and it is a major one in this classroom. Negative comments hurt more than punches sometimes, and it will not be tolerated.

The Ridgeback Rules
Our classroom works under the school wide Ridgeback Rules. These are as follows:
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Be Safe
Be Kind
Be Peaceful
Be a Ridgeback
Homework Policy
Homework is assigned daily. There may be exceptions throughout the year, but you can almost always expect to have Math and Reading homework. Spelling is assigned every week on Monday and tested on Friday. You can find the words in your child's planner or in the Weekly Homework section on this site. Your child should study these every night.
